Courtyard Bangkok – cosmopolitan and modern with young staff (pt. I)

Shopping and ‘Business Unusual’ at Marriott’s new brand for Thailand

Introducing its revamped Courtyard brand, Marriott Hotels & Resorts is out to compete for customers within the mid-tier segment in Thailand along brands such as Holiday Inn and Novotel.

Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok is superbly located in the very centre of downtown Bangkok, tucked away on a side street, a so called Soi, on Rachadamri road while the most prominent shopping centres and several conference venues are only minutes away.

If arriving to the hotel by the 'sky train' network (which will be fully possible once the connecting train transfer between the city and the airport is up and running), Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok is only a minute away from Rachadamri BTS station.

Being in such excellent location it can cater to both the modern business and leisure travellers - corporate business on weekdays and mostly leisure on weekends.

And not only is this brand new to Thailand, it is also very much positioned as something new to the travellers, designed to reflect ‘Refreshing Business’ and customized for a core target group defined as ‘Optimistic Achievers’. As says its trademark: ‘It’s a new stay’, consisting in a modern concept, look and feel.

Comprising 304 spacious rooms spread out over 15 floors, with its layout it does not feel like a large hotel at all.

Its public spaces have a very nice feel with the connection between restaurant (MoMo Café) and lobby; the gymnasium, spa (The Mood @ M) and pool are all in one area; the design is in light contemporary style; and the staff is young and cosmopolitan.

“I really like this word refreshing. And actually our customers call us young and hip,” says the hotels GM Nicholas Tse. “We're getting a lot of feedback from customers saying our personnel are extremely friendly and efficient. They can see the energy within the hotel.”

Indeed Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok is staffed by young multi-functional people aiming to go the extra mile with their service to the guests - the ‘Optimistic Achievers’. Those seek a hotel which meets business travellers’ need for productivity, free high-speed internet access, great service, location, and with some nuances as well. They are persons whose life on the road is busy, who expect to be given a choice, who enjoy a bit of buzz around them and who are tired of the same old same old.

Therefore Courtyard has laid out options that give the guests control over how to work and relax on their own terms so that time is never wasted, no matter if it is work or leisure. The concept of Business Unusual means not behaving as a strictly business hotel. Guests can for example use the public spaces outside their rooms and conference facilities as their office. These public areas are intended to be multi-purpose, stimulating, inviting and that enable enjoyment.

The rooms are “comfortably productive”, design intuitive and with unexpected details. These factors along with the right mix of services and amenities are meant to help travellers maintain balance and thrive during their stay. They can utilize spaces provided to relax and re-energize.

The hotel attracts the younger generation travellers who see travel as an enjoyable break from routine and also has some free time during their trip. They are easy travellers coming with a suitcase laptop. In the evening they like to hang out, have a drink and go out with their friends or business partners for dinner.
