Movie on Maldives’ President Nasheed screened at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa
A sneak preview of the documentary film “The Island President” has been screened at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa last night.
Directed by award-winning director Jon Shenk, the documentary follows President Nasheed as he raises awareness about climate change around the globe and fights to save his country from disappearing, literally. The documentary’s preview premier took place at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado following its official world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival where the film received Toronto’s People’s Choice Award for Best Documentary.
The screening which was attended by Director Jon Shenk, Producer Richard Berge, and Associate Producer Craig Hickerson began with pre-dinner drinks during a beautiful Maldivian sunset. A local Bodu Beru group performed traditional songs throughout the dinner which was served at Sea Salt, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa signature restaurant. Amid the beautiful Maldivian night skies, the screening of the documentary took place at Anchorage bar.
“It’s great to share with our guests such a fascinating documentary. It gives a whole new meaning and understanding to our guests to learn about the environmental challenges our country faces, when they are literally a few inches above sea level.” said Shumaes Rasheed, Marketing Communications Manager of Sheraton Maldives regarding the screening.
The screening was also part of the Starwood Preferred Guest program’s SPG Moments where one of the SPG members won tickets for a one of a kind experience for the advance screening and also a private breakfast with the Director and Producer on the following morning.
